I decided to make at least one (and hopefully two) TCS races this year. I'll be running GT-2 and Mini. Now, I use Tamiya tires for my Mini, but have always used Take-Offs and Jacos for my touring car. Since the rules state that I have to use Tamiya wheels and tires, can someone help me decipher all of these Tamiya tires. My first race tis year is going to be indoors on carpet, and my second (hopefully) outdoors on asphalt. Now, I've read somewhere that the B3 is good for outdoors, but what would be good for indoors? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the B3 tires on outdoor asphalt, and the type-A tires for carpet.
Type-A tires: http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53433
Type-B3 tires: http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53705
The B3 tires come as a set of 4, and the A tires come as a pair of 2. If you need to find some 24mm Tamiya wheels, go here: http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/category.php?sub-id=71300. Remember, in GT2, you cannot use dish wheels. Also, most people find that the 0 offset wheels work the best.

What would you suggest for inserts?

I don't have much experience with the A tires since I don't do any TCS asphalt racing, but as far as outdoor asphalt with the B3 tires, I would suggest the Muchmore Pink insert.

I use the #53220 Touring Car Super Slicks.
Its fine on outdoor asphalt track. But I run with regular Silver Can motor (Mabuchi or Jonson).
I donīt know if in GT2 you can user a faster motor and need more grip...

In the GT2 class, the cars run with 17.5 brushless, and the B3 tires are definitely needed for outdoor asphalt.

Can we use any insert for TCS, or does it have to be Tamiya?

For TCS you can use any insert. I can tell you from experience, those inserts work very well in the Tamiya B3 tire. It's what most racers use out at our track.

For GT2 on carpet, I run A's with the Tamiya Green inserts
You can dial a bit of understeer in with blacks up front if you want

i heard some people are drilling holes in the wheels?
in the TCS its illegal: "Drilling extra vent holes to the wheels is illegal."
does the car drive better with holes in the wheels?
someone have experience with this?

The extra holes being drilled in the wheels are to help get air in the tires, and help the tires run cooler. This way, the tires do not overheat during a run and should provide better grip through the run. It is ILLEGAL to do this in TCS however.

Since most racing series don't seem to allow it, i don't have a lot of experience with it. Seems it is trial and error. For some people, simply enlarging the existing hole is good enough, others add one hole on the opposite side of the rim.

AIR GAP=More heat in the tire carcass. Some of the fast guys in past have run without inserts in their tires. But that is my .02 cents.
