I think Tamiya really needs to consider releasing an 1/8 scale GT car! It's a growing class and the first world races are being held in Miami in March.
Right now there are only two players, Kyosho and Ofna. It would be very easy for Tamiya to enter the market. They already have TRF801.. So all that would be need is to take the Truggy chassis, use the buggy arms, develop a 2 speed and remove the CNC aluminium parts to bring the parts down and punch out a few bodies.
At the moment I own a Kyosho IGT2.. but I'm first and foremost a Tamiya fan :Tamiya1:
So lets go Tamiya, get into the GT class!
In these category, 1/8, is possible use the TGR or TGX chassi?

TGX/TGR are much smaller and will be under powered. The GT cars run .21 to .28. TGX used .12 to .15.

I'm well aware of the TGX and TGR.
1. They're over 10 years old and discontinued
2. They were slightly bigger than a 1/10 scale and were designed to be used with a .15 motor.
3. They were 300 mm wheel base.
4. The handled poorly and were little suspension adjustments. I know, I owned both
I'm talking about something entirely new based on a buggy platform. The current GT / Rallye Game cars are between 320 mm and 360 mm. They use .21 to .28 motors. They're big, they're fast and fun to drive and draw crowds.
You are right.
The today 1/8 GT cars are based on Buggy chassi. Kyosho GT is a street version for Inferno Buggy.
May be is possible to change one TRF801X for GT...

It's very possibl.. You would need a 801x with 801xt chassis and shock towers. Then you would have to modify a 2 speed from an 1/8 scale onroad to fit.
It would be too expensive! The point of this thread is to make Tamiya aware and to enter this Market with a car.. Instead of combining various kits.

Wel thats when you say" tamiya I think it would really sweet to have a 1/8 size r/c to compete with because all I trust is tamiya parts and the skill that you put into them when designing the model's for the finale product", and than maybe they mit ethink about it or you just write them a formul letter asking if it can be done

Letters/requests from one or two people will get about as far as the nearest trash can.
Gather up a thousand or more really eager buyers and you may get some attention, however in terms of design and production cost, not to mention marketing the product I believe you need many more than that.
Good luck.

The Ipanema Sports GT world championship ended yesterday. The winner was an Ofna DM1-S powered by Novarossi and the driver was a Serpent sponsored driver.
At the end of the event Serpent announced that it will be getting into the GT Class business.
Come on Tamiya!! get in the game, this is right up your ally.. either base it on the TRF801 buggy or a newer bigger and stronger TGR with wheelbase of 360 mm.

Tuba,
I think I am going to have to make the prototype myself. LOL. I'm going to look for a used TRF801X.. hard to find because everybody loves the car!

Hey,
I really love to make some prototipes.
The problem for my is too expensive to import car and spare parts to Brazil :-/
My last "prototipe" was one F103Gt with groupC tires. the car run fine :)

Hello all, I agree, tamiya needs to come out with 1/8 scale GT. I have lots of people I run with the majority runs dm1 and one runs inferno gt. I want an 1/8 gt but I f tamiya doesn't make one, I will continue to run my tg10-mk.2....speaking of that why aren't there any nitro on road threads?

I have a TG10 Mk.2 as well. Initially I ran it with a .12, then I decided I want to run it as a 4 stroke and installed and FS-26-C II in it. It doesn't have the same top end, but it is fun to drive!
I decided to make my own Tamiya GT car. Here is the thread

never mind I see the pics!
I wouldn't mind a 1/8 Tamiya onroad to go along with the Kyosho IGT and Ofna's. Any plans on a new 1/10 or any 1/10 nitro kit since they are all discontinued?

Well I went ahead with my own conversion..
http://www.tamiyarconroad.com/vb/showthread.php?t=180&page=4
I'll be running this at Corona Hobby Town next weekend against a field of Ofna, Kyosho and a few other converted buggies.
As for Tamiya and nitro.. well 1/10 nitro is a tough class, not sure if its worthwhile for them.. as for 1/8 scale, I think electric is the way to go.
