I recently obtained an original Tamiya cockpit set for my Lancia Integrale (DF-03Ra) and have never painted one of these before. Does anyone have any tips? I plan on using the recommended Tamiya acrylics (I dug up the old painting instructions from the TA-01 kit :D). I have also heard to spray primer on first before I paint -is this what I want?: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLLB1&P=7

Again, any advice or resources on how to go about doing this properly would be helpful.

I think if the surface is smooth, you donīt need a primer.
As I know primer is for two think:
- Fix small irregularities in the surface;
- Better fixation of the ink.

I painted some plastic models with tamiya acrylics tint without primer base, and the fixation is fine.

If you intend to actually race with the interior definitely use primer.
I drove a Nissan GTP with interior into a tennis net post once and most of the paint popped off when the body flexed.
A real shame the same couldn't be said for the chassis!!!!
