Well, my F104 is a work in progress.....

What are the major advantages of the F104 over the F103 models? We are trying to get a F1 class running at our track and I wonder if the F104 is much better. It is a very small indoor carpet track, and the F103 is currently up there is lap times with the fastest classes (ie. 1/12th).

At the moment and things can change, the biggest advantage of the F104 over the F103 is the new diff and the sculpted body. One other advantage is for new F1 enthusiasts this platform is relatively easy to drive.

Nice looking body you have. The silver wheels were a nice touch.

Always good to see someone from one of the "other boards" come over.:Tamiya1:

actually it will be almost the same price because it will come with the speed control...

it will be around $202... and I can get the F104 Pro for $204... and use my own electronics

akuntze
10-13-2009, 01:14 PM
Well there was an error and the F60 kit (item #58447) will NOT come with an esc. The kit should be around $200, and currently the F104 Pro is $259.99 on Towerhobbies.com

kaybo
10-13-2009, 02:43 PM
what's going to be the difference between the pro and the F60 kit? just the blue goodies and body?

akuntze
10-13-2009, 03:29 PM
Yes, the Pro has an original Tamiya F1 body and foam tires, and the new kit will have the Ferrari F60 body with rubber tires. The Pro kit comes with these parts that the Ferrari will not:

Carbon Upper Deck
Carbon Lower Deck
TRF Damper
Carbon Rear Shaft
Carbon Friction Plate
Carbon Reinforced Friction Pads
Aluminum Diff. Housing
Aluminum Turnbuckles
Carbon Reinforced Front Uprights
Servo Saver

Hello Guys,

Here in your championship thw new F104 don't goes well.
The best cars are F103 and HPI Formula (the old one).
Look the results table:

does anyone know what kind of adaptors the front wheels use on the f104's??

like on HPI's - that uses a hex for the front wheels...does the f104 do that as well or does it attach like a pan car front?

I normally wouldn't ask this, but i can't find a manual for the f104 online anywhere ;)

has anyone tried to change out the spur gear for a 'standard' 64p gear? If so, how difficult was it mating everything back up?

will the f104 be allowed in the TCS this year?:Tamiya1:

does the f104 Pro come with the aluminum rear pods?

chuckz
11-13-2009, 09:34 PM
The rear pods are an upgrade for about 21.00 I suggest you buy it before the build with the soft t plate about 12.00 that way you can assemble once !

I'm a sucker and I bought it all!!!

definitely buy all the hop-up especially the soft t-plate and if possible buy the gold spring
(9805921) to help the high speed wander with 200 oil in the dampner.

Does anyone know what kind of compound these are?

The F201 had 3 different compounds: Type A, Type B and "for the shelf" (the latter came in the kit).

toybreaker
12-07-2009, 10:20 AM
The F104 comes with the Type A foams front and rear which are the softer compound. The Type B compound is a bit harder and then the new rubber tires which are to be released this month, looks like just 1 compound for the rubber tires right now. i really hope they have 2-3 compounds for the rubber tires.
I had a question too but forgot..oh well, maybe later.

Oh I remember now. Anyone have a good place to purchase decal sheets to do these bodies up real nice?

they do not. F201 front wheels have hex hubs because it's 4wd. F104 is rwd and use bearing in the front wheels. The rear wheels on F201 and F104 have VERY different offsets (the F201 hex hub is very close to the outside edge and the F104 is all the way on the inside. The hex is deeper on the F104 also.

I wonder if you can use F201 rubbers on F104 wheels. I have a whole box of F201 Type-A's and Type B's...

Anyone know the difference between the 2 F104 Pro kits that are available?

TAM84106 - F104 Pro w/LW Body
TAM58431 - F104 Pro with body

i get that the 84106 includes a lightweight body - but is there any other differences in the 2 kits? I mean something that would justify a higher price I've seen it selling for online?

thanks!

not sure why anyone would want a lightweight body either - unless you're one of those fanantics that need their cars lighter?? :D

I was just wondering if there was anything else special included in the kit since some of the write-ups I saw were 'limited edition' tag on the kit

Hi, I have with the F104Pro the following problem:

when I accelerate out of the curve or give full throttle on the straight, breaking the F104Pro from the rear.
What is the reason.
The F104Pro is so assembled as it says in the manual.

As tires, I have the Type A and Type B foam rubber and rubber tires.

Sorry for my bad English, I come from Germany and use Google to translate

what kind of lipo batteries are you all using in your F104??

i got a couple in my possession to choose from, but they are all banana plug packs - so i'm not really crazy about using them, even though a couple packs fit the chassis real good

any suggestions?
