I have been looking for a spool for my EVO 4, Tamiya has discontinued the Spool some time ago. I have been told the EVO 4 spool works in the EVO 5, if so would the TB03 spool (which works in the E5) fit the EVO 4?

I have not tried doing this, nor heard of anyone going backwards. Might be worth a shot though. Tamiya did discontinue the Evo IV spool.

I guess the one-way and front diff is my only choice.

After some digging, here is what I found:

The Evo IV Spool measures 23.7mm
The TB03 Spool measures 23.3mm
The Evo IV gear box is 24mm wide

You can use the TB03 (item #54125 (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=54125)) spool in the TB Evo IV, but you also need to buy a set of 10mm shims (item #53588 (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53588)) to put on each side of the TB03 spool to make of for the shorter width. Keep putting them on equally on both sides until the gear feels smooth.

The other difference is that the original Evo IV spool came with steel outdrives while the TA03 spool comes with two sets of plastic ones. The plastic ones will work good, but if you prefer steel, you will want item #9485079 (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=9485079).

Big thanks! I will certainly try it. :common001:

I've been racing with the front spool and I like it, the Evo is quicker coming out of sharp corners! I used one 0.2 shim on each side for a perfect fit...
