Whoa, how did I miss this? Very cool project! I'd love to get my M04M Alfa up to speed but I keep hearing how hard they are to setup so I've left it on the shelf. I'm looking forward to hearing how that thing handles when you're done.

Thanks, yeah I'm anxious to get it running too as I've heard the same. Have you ran your Alfa and gave up or did you give up when you heard what others were saying?:D
Temporary fitting of electronics. Final configuration will be using 3S Lipo which means max rpm will be around 47K. Pinion is Tamiya 22T hardened not the soft AV type, spur is 36T. Stock spur is 37T and 21T pinion max. Top speed should be around 45 -50 MPH.

pretty cool - an awful lot of aluminum on that :)
be careful with those bluebird servos, the plastic they use on the case can be brittle :( especially at the mounting points

Thanks, as you can see I like bling but also the precision the aluminum pieces bring. This will defintely be a runner though, I just gotta be careful not to crash into anything lol.
Yeah I noticed the plastic is pretty brittle when I sanded off the strengthening bridge between the two eyelets. I had to do that so that there would be a flat surface for the top oval shaped alloy clamp. I also heard the Bluebirds need high voltage and/or current to operate properly. Mine is stuttering badly so I need to get a receiver capacitor.

i'm new to the m chassis cars and im a little confused about what works with what. Can these parts work well with my M04L chassis? I wanna strenghten it up with some alluminum parts like your but i cant find any specific parts for my chassis. I was told that some parts are interchangable but I really don't know. any advice would help thanks

Have you run it yet? Curious to hear your results.

I think all of the aluminum parts on my M04M will fit on the M04L too. As far as strengthening, yes it will do that but if you are new to RC cars and your driving skills are not very good then I would advise you to NOT add the aluminum parts because if you crash some of the parts will bend and some will be ripped straight off of the chassis.
In my case, I'm an experienced driver and I rarely crash and when I do it's minor and not enough to bend the aluminum parts.
Have you run it yet? Curious to hear your results.
I finally ran it today after installing the Rx capacitor which solved the servo stuttering problem. I was completely shocked at how well it handles not to mention how quiet and smooth the whole thing is. I was expecting the Tobee spur gear to be very noisy but it's surprisingly quiet. My car has no oversteer whatsoever and lots of traction. Even with my ancient 2000mah NiCD 7.2V pack it is very fast.
Here it is with the electronics semi-organized. After I'm done testing with the NiCD pack, I'm gonna changed the battery connector to 4mm gold plated banana/bullet connectors to use with the LiPo packs.

Wow I almost destroyed the front of my nicely painted prestine Miata body yesterday. I was testing the car on the street in front of my home after doing some suspension and toe adjustment and the power completely cut out while the car was in motion.
The car coasted about 5 feet and hit my neighbor's plastic trash can. It was only going about 5-10 mph as I was already slowing down. When I checked for body damage there was a scratch by the front left turn signal but no cracks or creases. Unfortunately the paint on the inside was flakey at the damage spot.:(
After looking at the electronics it turns out the on/off switch for the ESC fell out of the chassis while the car was in motion and then caught the pavement switching the power off. This happened because I hadn't yet taped the switch to the chassis because I was still doing tests and hadn't decided where I was going to place the switch so I let it dangle inside the box frame....bad idea.:bangin:
If that wasn't enough today the body took some more damage...sigh. One was some minor damage near the left door handle when I slid sideways against the curb. The other was major and creased my left rear bumper section near the bottom of the wheel arch. With some minor bending it's back to its regular shape but the crease is still visible from up close. Luckily the rear internal soft plastic chassis bumper did its job to protect the shocks.

Got to testing the car with a 2S 30C LiPo and 7 degrees timing advance....WOW....speed is INSANE!!! This time I put M Grips up front with S Slicks on rear because I was rolling the car under full throttle accellerated cornering. With the M Grips up front I could go full throttle while turning without rolling, instead the back slides out now which is good. I'll post a video of the runs when I have the time to record them.

Some pics of the car. The paint looks much nicer outside on a sunny day. The flash from the camera doesn't do the color justice. I still haven't installed the mirrors yet, I need to paint them.

Here's a pic of the chassis in it's completed form with high current HXT battery/ESC bullet connectors. Running weight is a superlight 1185g with battery and body installed.
